Xcode 6 SDK hints at iPhone 6 display resolution

According to some iOS 8 files found inside Xcode 6 SDK, the resolution of the iPhone 6 display will be 828 x 1472.

Although the number looks like someone pulled it out their backside, there seems to be some logic behind it. One of the files within the iOS 8 Springboard was optimized for a display resolution of 414 x 736. But since the SDK parses hardware resolution via point values, the actual resolution is usually double (or possibly triple) of that number. Hence, 828 x 1472.

828 x 1472 at 4.7-inch works out to be around 360PPI, which is more than the current iPhone display and 'Retina' enough. It would be a stretch at the purported 5.5-inch size, which is where Apple might go for 3x the 414 x 736 value, and reach 1242 x 2208, although we are now far too deep into speculation territory.

Whatever it is, we have about three weeks left now to find out for sure.

Original HTC One is now receiving Android 4.4.3 in Europe

Following in the footsteps of the HTC One (M8), he originalHTC One from 2013 is now apparently in the process of getting updated to Android 4.4.3 KitKat.

This has started to happen in parts of Europe, with confirmed updates received in both Slovakia and Romania - in the latter case even for a carrier version of the smartphone, so not only units sold unlocked are part of the rollout.

As you may know, HTC has decided to incorporate the security fixes from Google's Android 4.4.4 release into its Android 4.4.3 update, so this will probably be the last Android version bump for HTC smartphones until Android L hits later this year.

The update for the original HTC One comes in at around 550 MB, and after applying it you'll be running Software number 6.09.401.5.

Aside from the new bits brought by the new version of Android itself, it also contains updates for some of HTC's apps, such as Camera, Gallery, and Sync Manager.

HTC One (M8) for T-Mobile gets updated to Android 4.4.3

HTC One (M8) for T-Mobile in the United States got treated to an update to Android 4.4.3. Software build number 2.22.531.5 is now seeding to the Big Magenta-flavored handset.

As expected, the update brings a host of improvements to the metal clad smartphone. They include improved network and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a number of HTC Sense tweaks. The latter include improved Camera, Gallery, Quick Settings menu, and BoomSound.

Most importantly, the security updates from Android 4.4.4 have been baked into the latest update for the handset. The new firmware size is a tad over 582MB.

HTC One (M8) for T-Mobile joins its siblings in Europe and India as the latest version of the flagship to get updated to Android 4.4.3.
