LG G3 sales in Korea reach 100,000 in 4 days

While the rest of the world is waiting for availability those lucky enough to be in LG's home South Korea have been buying the LG G3 at a crazy pace. In its first 5 days of selling the LG flagship has reportedly passed the 100 thousand unit mark.
That makes sense since we knew it was outperforming its rival Samsung Galaxy S5 in a whopping fashion - 25-30K a day versus 7-8K for the Samsung flagship.

Last year's LG G2 saw around 10,000 units sold per day in its first 5 days which means the LG G3 is twice as good a sales performer.
Still LG's choice to sell the G3 in South Korea only and not globally from day one does have its consequences. The Samsung Galaxy S5 sold 10 million units in its first 25 days, which means around 2 million units in just 5 days, but that one was available in 125 markets at launch.
Of course Apple is this the king of opening weekend sales - 5 million in just three days.
Anyway, we are hoping LG loses no more time and unleashes this QHD beast to Europe this month and other markets hopefully soon.

Google's first Project Tango tablet is powered by NVIDIA Tegra K1

We have talked about Google's Project Tango in the past. It works with specialized devices running Android to track 3D objects and spaces in real-time and generates a vital map of it, which can be used for various purposes
Back when it was announced, there was just one device that Google used internally for testing. But now, the company has released a new tablet for developers to buy and work on the project.
Called the Project Tango Tablet Development Kit, this is the second device since the Xiaomi MiPad to run on NVIDIA's powerful new Tegra K1 SoC. It also has a 7-inch display (no word on resolution), 4GB of RAM, 128GB storage space, motion tracking camera, integrated depth sensor and 4G LTE connectivity.
Considering the hardware, it's not surprising that the tablet is priced at $1024 and you'll have to sign up from Google's website to be able to get your hands on one.

Moto X+1 with 1080p screen unintentionally confirmed

Motorola Moto G owners have been complaining that their precious status bar space is wasted with a permanent label displaying the carrier name. Reports started flying around that this will not be fixed, but Motorola VP of Product Management Punit Soni took to Google+ to prove them wrong with a screenshot showing a checkbox to hide the carrier name.
That's good news except for one small detail that makes it great news – the screen shot has 1080p resolution. Motorola does not have a 1080p phone, both the Moto X and Moto G are 720p. Then the obvious suspect is the Motorola Moto X+1.
The company initially tweeted that the Moto X successor is coming in late summer but there's been little official info about it since. We've seen a couple of leaks, including customizable back options.
As before there are wood back panel options but leather too. It remains to be seen how Lenovo's purchase of Motorola and subsequent closing of the US plant (which was instrumental to the Moto Maker customizations) will affect the Moto X+1.

ZTE teases upcoming Nubia Z7 flagship 6/6/2014

ZTE has started the teaser campaign about for its new flagship – the Nubia Z7. First it was the CEO of ZTE's smartphone division, Ni Fei, and now a peek at the back of the device. It bears the characteristic Nubia mark of a red circle used both on the Home key and around the camera lens.
The first teaser image shows only the camera and the LED flash on the back. MyDrivers may be ahead of the curve with two additional images that show the Home button from the side, revealing square metallic sides that are very similar to an iPhone or Ascend P6/P7.
The rumored specifications for the ZTE Nubia Z7 are a 5" 1080p screen, Snapdragon 805 chipset with 3GB RAM and a 16MP optically stabilized camera. The phone will feature a new iteration of ZTE's custom UI, Nubia UI 2.0.
There's a press release by ZTE that details the Nubia Z7, unfortunately our Chinese is quite rusty. A quick pass through Google translate reveals mentions of a fingerprint scanner and eight cores though the context of that is unclear (the Snapdragon 805 has a quad-core processor). If any Chinese speakers can post a translation in the comments it would be very helpful.
Anyway, the ZTE Nubia Z7 will be unveiled this month and will cost CNY 2,700 (around $450) according to the rumor mill.

Meet the Toshiba Encore 7: a seven-inch Windows tablet 6/ 5 / 2014

There hasn’t been a 7” Windows 8.1 Tablet on the market, until now.
Microsoft corporate Vice President, Nick Parker, introduced the Toshiba Encore 7 at Computex. And just like the name indicates, it’ll have a 7” display.
So why did Microsoft take part in announcing a tablet from another manufacturer, when they have their own line of hardware in the tablet game? Well this is where it gets interesting: it turns out that Microsoft worked closely together with Toshiba to create the Encore 7, along with AMI, Goodix, and Intel.
We’ll see if Microsoft’s involvement in the development of the slate will actually yield for a better user experience, especially with the price point: the Encore 7 will allegedly by retailing for around $150 so it’s difficult to imagine that the device will have top of the line specs. A streamlined software experience will need to be the name of the game to ensure that the tablet is usable.
Expect the Encore 7 to drop within the coming months. Are you excited to try Windows out on a 7” tablet? Or is Windows 8.1 better suited to larger screens? Let us know in the comments

Google updates YouTube app for Android with resolution options

Google has released an update for the YouTube app on Android. The only major change is that you can now choose what resolution you stream the video at rather than have the app select it for you.
Now, when you click on the menu button in the video and tap on the gear icon, you will get a list of resolution options, from the eye-watering 144p all the way to 1080p. The max resolution will depend upon the video, of course. Even if you do come across a 4K video, however, the max setting is still 1080p.
Best part is that you can choose to select the resolution even on a 3G connection. Previously, the HQ option that was available for 3G streaming was noticeably worse than the HD option that was available on WI-Fi but now you can manually set the video to HD resolution even on 3G. You can, however, limit the app to non-HD resolutions from the settings for 3G connection.
There is one bug in the app, however, where the max 1080p option comes and goes as it pleases. Even when a video is available in 1080p or even higher resolutions, sometimes you will be limited to just 720p, even on Wi-Fi. Other times, the 1080p option would magically reappear. Hopefully, this glitch is solved soon.
