HTC One (M8) Ace officially confirmed, squeezes m8 specs into plastic handset

HTC's latest smartphone has been confirmed by the company's Chinese division. The HTC One (m8) Ace takes the specifications from the flagship HTC One (m8) but exchanges the all-metal chassis for a cheaper plastic one - which should help bring the price down significantly.Although the handset hasn't been officially announced, HTC China revealed it when the official product page was activated last night. Expected to launch in China as the HTC One Vogue Edition when it is officially revealed on the 3rd of June, the handset should launch in a range of colours including white, blue, black and red. All four models have a glossy plastic finish, rather than the matte metal seen on the standard m8.

Internally, HTC has brought most of the m8's hardware across to the Ace, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 system-on-chip (SoC) which will run at 2.5GHz. Should it launch in the UK, there's a good chance HTC will down-clock the CPU to 2.3GHz to match the One m8.The m8's Duo Camera has been exchanged for a 13-megapixel rear sensor, meaning no depth of field effects, but the 5-megapixel front-facing webcam has made the jump to the new handset. Also present are the front-facing Boomsound speakers, Motion Launch gestures and Extreme power saving mode. The display is believed to be the same 5in, 1080p panel used in the m8, but it appears the IR blaster built into the top of the m8 won't be coming to the Ace. Finally, the new handset will be launching in China with an LTE modem, so it's safe to assume a European release would include 4G support. The most important thing is price, but unfortunately HTC China hasn't revealed what customers will be paying for the handset. We expect to learn more when the phone is officially revealed at an event next week, and hopefully find out if it will be coming to the UK.
